In 616 Raedwald King East Anglia and his son RAegenhere Wuffingas fought at the Battle of the River Idle which took place at the River Idle which forms the western border of the Isle of Lindsey.

In 616 Aethelfrith King Bernicia and RAegenhere Wuffingas were killed during the Battle of the River Idle.

Battle of Heavenfield

In 634 Oswald King Northumbria won a decisive victory over the army of the Kingdom of Gwynedd at the Battle of Heavenfield which was fought at Heavenfield around six miles north of Hexham. St Oswald's Church is believed to mark the location where Oswald King Northumbria raised his standard.The battle re-united Deira and Bernicia to form Northumbria and, according to Bede, restored Christianity to Northumbria.

On 15 Nov 655 Aethelwald King Deira, an ally of Penda King Mercia, withdrew his forces at Cock Beck during the Battle of the Winwaed, one of many Mercian allies to do so, weakening Penda King Mercia 's army.

In 671 Ecgfrith King Deira and BeornhAeth Sub-King Northern Northumbria aka Lothian defeated Drest VI King Picts at the Battle of the Two Rivers bringing to an end the Pictish rebellion.The location of the battle is not known.Stephen of Ripon described the account in his account of the battle from Vita Sancti Wilfrithi: He slew an enormous number of the people, filling two rivers with corpses, so that, marvellous to relate, the slayers, passing over the rivers dry foot, pursued and slew a crowd of fugitives.'
