A tragedy that had far reaching consequences. Returning to England the young Norman court took a faster, newer ship than the King, leaving later, expecting to overtake the King. Around a mile offshore the ship struck a rock and all drowned bar one boy. The death of William Adelin Duke Normandy resulted in the ten year period known as the Anarchy in which Stephen I King England and Matilda Normandy fought over the Kingdom of England.
